Olex invests in Australian industry

01 Oct 2005

Olex’s new Low Voltage Building Wire Plant at Lilydale, Victoria was officially opened by the Victorian Minister for Manufacturing and Export, the Honourable Andre Haermeyer MP recently.

More than 200 people joined Mr Haermeyer to celebrate the opening of the state-of-the-art facility in August, which will produce power cables for the building and construction markets.

The investment in new cable production facilities has reaffirmed Olex’s commitment to maintaining its position as a world-class, Australian made cable manufacturer.

The upgrade will further enhance Olex’s global competitiveness by increasing the site’s cable production output by $80 million per annum. In addition, local employment has been boosted with approximately 70 new jobs created in the factory.

The new plant is utilising world’s best practice manufacturing techniques and now incorporates special custom designed features including a one-of-a-kind automated product packaging system which was developed by Olex engineering staff and packaging specialists.

The Lilydale plant has been manufacturing cable since 1950. This expansion will ensured that the plant continues to produce high quality cable for Australia and overseas.
